The CHO Stay Capsule hotel is the only hotel, or accommodation, located inside Taipei Taoyuan Airport. The hotel is located on the 5th floor of Terminal 2 which means you will be sleeping inside the airport terminal.
The hotel is built around the very Taiwanese tradition of drinking tea, so the warm look and feel is made to make you feel like you’re being welcomed in a tea house. Where you can relax, uncharge, and get some sleep after or before your flight.
I felt very welcome and safe during my stay, here you can read my full review of the CHO Stay Capsule hotel, but the truth is that you are still sleeping in a dormitory, hostel style. Which means that even though the wooden capsules are luxurious compared to a bunk bed, you will have to deal with people arriving late or leaving early making noise during the night with their luggage.
It is however the cheapest hotel at Taipei Taoyuan Airport, with room rates starting at $30 for 1 night, which is a whole lot cheaper than the Hyatt Regency hotel.
Insider’s tips for the CHO Stay Capsule hotel
- Look for check-in desk 25 in Terminal 2, in that hall you will find the elevator to the 5th floor.
- The hotel is land-side, so you will have to go through immigration and officially enter Taiwan in order to sleep there.
- If you arrive at Terminal 1, take the free airport shuttle to T2.
- It is called a capsule hotel, but in reality you will be sleeping in wooden bunk beds in a dormitory. (For the only real hotel at Taipei Airport see the Hyatt Regency Taipei Airport)
- Don’t forget to plan time for your free welcome tea, brewed by a skilled tea master.
Rooms at CHO Stay Capsule hotel
Shared Dormitories
If you are traveling solo and want the cheapest option, you can book a single wooden bunk bed in one of the shared dormitories. These rooms are strictly separated into men-only and women-only, and usually sleep between 8 to 14 guests. You get a comfortable down duvet, there is a curtain for privacy, and the hotel thoughtfully provides free earplugs and an eye mask to help block out the inevitable noise of your roommates coming and going.
Private Rooms
If sharing a room with strangers isn’t your thing, CHO Stay also offers private Double, Triple, and Quadruple rooms. These are completely private, have no gender restrictions, and feature actual double beds instead of only bunks, making them the better choice for couples or small families. Just be aware that the rooms are still very compact (only about 65 square feet), windowless, limited in availability and a lot more expensive than the wooden capsules in the shared dormitory.
Shared Bathrooms
The most important thing to know is that no matter which room type you book, you will not have an en-suite bathroom. All guests must use the communal toilets and showers located down the hall. The good news is that these facilities are kept exceptionally clean and are actually quite luxurious for a hostel setup, complete with bidets and high-end Dyson hair dryers.
Is the CHO Stay Capsule hotel for you?
With the dormitory style sleeping arrangements it is important to ask yourself a few questions before booking your stay here after arrival in Taiwan, or before leaving. These questions will help you find out if this place is suitable for you, or if you’re better off staying at the Hyatt Regency Taipei Airport, or one of the hotels near Taipei Airport.
- Are you okay with sleeping in a wooden capsule, bunkbed style?
- Are you okay with a short walk to the shared showers and toilets?
- Do you prefer the convenience of sleeping in the airport terminal?
- What is your budget?
Depending on these answers you can decide if sleeping in a capsule at this hotel is for you, or not.
When it comes to budget, if you book your capsule on time you can already sleep at Taipei Taoyuan Airport for only 30 US Dollar a night.
